This post was changed to correct the description of Ross Evan's legal status.

TCU’s starting kicker Ross Evans, was involved in a confrontation at a Denton apartment because he was trying to retrieve his girlfriend’s friend’s stolen cellphone, Denton Police Department public information officer, Ryan Grelle said.

“The way I’m looking at it, this was a cell phone incident,” Grelle said.

Evans turned himself into police after a warrant for criminal trespassing of a habitation was issued. According to Grelle, Evans was trying to reclaim the cell phone when he kicked down the front and bedroom door of an apartment in Denton.

Grelle said Evans was seeking a man named William Horn. They had attended a party in Denton separately and Horn stole the phone from a high school friend as a joke, Grelle said. Horn initially told police that Evans was looking for money, but Grelle said Horn recanted that statement and admitted he took the cell phone from Evans’ girlfriend’s friend.

The North Texas Daily tried to contact the witnesses at the apartment complex on Tuesday but did not get a response.

No disciplinary actions had been taken on Evans as of Wednesday morning.
