The TCU women’s basketball team will look for its second conference win against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebels tonight at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

After a 79-71 victory against Colorado State last Saturday, the Lady Frogs advanced to a 1-1 in conference play and 8-9 overall record. TCU beat Colorado State for the 13th straight game.

TCU started the game on fire with a 15-0 lead after tip off and remained in control for the rest of the game.

The Rams could not handle the hustle on the court of the Horned Frogs. The Lady Frogs forced four turnovers in the first five minutes of the game.

For the fifth time this season, sophomore Latricia Lovings recorded four blocks.

The team scored a season high of 12 three-pointers, tying the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum record for the most three-pointers in a game.

Sophomore Briesha Wynn has scored double figures in 5 of the last 11 games. The TCU defense has held 6 different opponents to less than 20 percent from the 3-point line.

Redshirt junior guard Whitney Williams earned  a career-high of 18 points. Williams tied her career-highs in field goals with five and three-pointers with four.

Freshman guard Natalie Ventress has led TCU in scoring in 6 out of the last 8 games. Ventress scored 20 points in TCU’s victory over Colorado State.

“Our last game was a big step forward for us because for the first time, the team came out and controlled the ball in the first half and played with effort for the entire 40 minutes,” junior forward Delisa Gross said.  

Playing hard for every minute of the game is the key to success for the team, she said. 

Gross said the team has learned how to play together but still needs to work on being consistent. 

“The first half of the season helped everyone mature and realize that we are only going to win by playing as a team and not as individuals,” Gross said.

This will be the 18th match up between the Horned Frogs and the Rebels. TCU won the last meeting 71-64 on the road in Las Vegas last season.

TCU will be going for their fifth straight victory over the Lady Rebels. TCU have not lost to UNLV since 2009 and have never lost to the Rebels at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

UNLV has a 13-5 record and is coming off a 66-62 loss in overtime to San Diego State last Saturday. Junior guard Mia Bell led the Rebels in points with 12, and senior Lenita Sanford led the team in rebounds with 10. Junior guard Kelli Thompson averages 12.5 points a game.

“UNLV has always been a team that has a lot of guards who run in transition and usually shoot the three very well,” Gross said. “I think we can expect a quick team that has a good front court.”

TCU will continue conference play by hosting UNLV. The Rebels will look for their first win at TCU. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT.
