SGA to sponsor student carpooling website

In an effort to help students find rides to and from the university, Student Government Association officials said Tuesday that they hoped to have a student carpooling website up by the end of the month.

SGA President Brent Folan said the issue was already in the legal department and legislation would most likely come through during the next House of Student Representatives meeting. Folan said he expected the House to pass the legislation for the website.

The website, which will be done through ridaroo.com, will act like Facebook for students who are searching for rides to and from campus as well as the airport, Folan said.

Only university students would be able to use the website, he said, as the site would require a TCU ID number for students to register for an account.

The website, a campaign promise by Folan, would also track the carbon footprint in an effort to be a more environmentally friendly alternative, Folan said.

SGA representatives also discussed plans for student tailgating, which representatives expect to take on a more important role with the university’s move to the Big 12 Conference.

Folan said he would be working with the Athletics Department to set up tailgates that students could be more excited about attending.

The Tuesday meeting was the first of the semester for SGA and largely covered a refresher on the policy and procedures of the House.
