TCU’s Frogs For The Cure celebration event Wednesday honored participants who contributed to this year’s flash mob dance and the fight against breast cancer. 

Ann Louden, Frogs for the Cure committee chair and TCU Chancellor’s Associate for External Relations, hosted the event in the Dee J. Kelly Alumni and Visitors center.

Louden said she presented a check on behalf of Frogs for the Cure for $39,200 to the greater Fort Worth affiliates for the Susan G. Komen foundation.

The money was raised during 10 Frogs for the Cure events, support from outside events, T-shirt sales at the TCU Barnes and Noble Bookstore and from sales of Tim Halperin’s “We Fight Back” on iTunes.

Baylor All Saints Medical Center and Joan Katz of the Joan Katz Breast Center were especially honored for their help with Frogs for the Cure and for initially getting Fort Worth involved in Komen efforts.

Among honorees was Tim Halperin, the voice behind the theme song “We Fight Back,” which was featured in the flash mob dance.

“I love seeing more and more people using their abilities and talents to give back to such a great cause,” Halperin said. “I think that’s why the check continues to get bigger each year.”

Halperin has partnered with Louden in the breast cancer fight and will record a new song involving Susan G. Komen on a national level for next year, Louden said. 

Senior film-telvision-digital media major Katie Norry was honored for creating and editing the YouTube video “We Fight Back.”

Norry created three new videos for the event, featuring footage of what went into the creation of the flash mob, behind the scenes of the flash mob, bloopers and a tribute to Louden. Norry has worked 40-hour weeks her last two years at TCU and will have done 30 videos for Frogs for the Cure by the time she graduates, Louden said.

Gabrielle McBay, a TCU student and creator of the campaign Crumbs for the Cure, was honored at the event and also provided mini cupcakes for those who attended the event.

Many representatives from various TCU sports teams that participated in the flash mob also attended the event including volleyball, soccer, football, cheerleaders, Showgirls, TCU’s spirit coordinator and members of the TCU Athletics staff.

Members of Zeta Tau Alpha attended in support of their philanthropy, Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

Some key people also were honored at the event included Fort Worth Major Betsy Price, Deborah Ferguson from NBC 5 Today, Steve Lamb WBAP News/Talk 820AM & 96.7FM, and TCU Athletics Director Chris Del Conte.

“I am gratified that so many people wanted to come back and celebrate their experience,” Louden said. “There was a sense of goodwill in the room, and it was a great way for me to say thank you to everyone I could.”
