Faculty senate meets tomorrow

The university Faculty Senate will begin its first meeting of the semester at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in The Chambers meeting room at the Brown-Lupton University Union.

Faculty Senate, which last met Dec. 1, planned to discuss honorary degree nominations as well as review old business from last semester, according to the meeting agenda.

Part of that review will be an update on the Student Perception of Teaching (SPOT) evaluations, for which the university will pilot online software this semester.

Last semester, 40 percent of university departments used the online format, but with the possible change to the SmartEvals software, all departments on campus might switch to conducting faculty evaluations online.

The Faculty Senate Executive Committee met with Provost Nowell Donovan last Thursday to discuss upcoming plans for the spring semester.

The FSEC consists of five members, each serving as liaisons to their respective committees within the Senate: Chair Dan Williams (Faculty Governance), Past-chair Dianna McFarland (Academic Excellence Committee), Assistant Secretary David Sandell (Student Relations), Chair-elect Marie Schein (Committee on Committees) and Secretary Alan Shorter (Tenure, Promotion and Grievance).
