It is the 11th year for the Honorable former House representative, Jim Wright, to host his symposium at TCU. This symposium is named by Wright and is an annual event examining public affairs. 

According to TCU’s Special Collections website, Jim Wright was a Representative of Texas’s Twelfth District in the House of Representatives for thirty-four years, from 1955 to 1989.

“Speaker Wright is a national treasure that will grace TCU with his presence”, Karen Anisman, Associate Director of Outreach and Public Service Internships said.

Members of Congress, The Department of Political Science, The Center for Texas Studies, and the AddRan College of Liberal Arts are hosting the event, according to the TCU website in the political science department.

In the symposium, the topics vary from year to year. This year’s topic will focus on civility and bipartisanship in policy making, Jim Riddlesperger, political science professor said.

“This year the symposium is different because two speakers will appear together to deliver their message on these important topics”, Riddlesperger said.

According to the TCU website of the Department of Political Science, the featured speakers will be two former members of Congress, William Vollie Alexander, Jr (D) of Arkansas, and David O’Brien Martin, (R) of New York.

“We target all students, faculty, staff and all members of the Fort Worth Community," Joanne Connor Green, Associate Professor and Departments chair of Political Science said. Not only will the Representatives be at the symposium on Monday, but they  will also speak to two political science classes and visit with the Political Science Distinction Program students over lunch Monday afternoon, which you could make reservations for through the political science department, Greene said.

The symposium will be taken place in the Brown-Lupton University Ballroom on February 13, 2012 at 12 p.m.There are not many seats available and students need to make reservations for the symposium, Riddlesperger said.
