IFC president keeps position after arrest

After his arrest on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to minors Thursday night, TCU student and Interfraternity Council President Casey Tounget said in an email that there had been no change in his position as IFC president.

Police records show Tounget, John Bosworth and Macdonald Wesner were booked into jail early Friday morning on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to minors, a Class A misdemeanor. The university confirmed that all three men are students.

Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life Keith Becklin said any possible disciplinary actions for any student involved in Greek organizations and councils would follow university procedures and council bylaws. Becklin said every student faced the same accountability for their actions no matter what position they held at the university.

The university released a statement Saturday that read, “It is unfortunate that some of our students behaved in this manner, especially so close on the heels of Wednesday’s events,” referring to the drug-related arrests last Wednesday morning.

Becklin said executive members of the Interfraternity Council attended a regularly-scheduled meeting Monday.

Becklin declined to comment if the members discussed the future of Tounget as president. He said the meetings normally discussed what the fraternities were working on, community service and recruitment.

The IFC president could order an extra meeting during the week, if needed, to talk about issues going on in the community, Becklin said.

Despite the off-campus incident, the university said in the statement that it believed the majority of TCU students made wise choices: “The few who don’t must learn to be like the majority who do.”

According to the Frog Calls directory and the TCU email system, Tounget is an entrepreneurial management major from Austin.
