College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

Women’s tennis to face Aggies

After beating No. 32 Oklahoma 4-3 on the road, the women’s tennis team opens its four-match homestand against Texas A&M on Monday.

Head coach Dave Borelli said it has been hard to deal with all the injuries, but the team could only control how it reacts.

“It’s a rough road, but we have the capacity even for a team that is this young,” Borelli said. “I think it’s a neat challenge for them, and how they’ve responded so far has been pretty darn good.”

He said, teams got better with the right type of character and mentality, which he saw in this group.

“They work hard, they compete like son of a guns. I’m telling you, they are one bad mother team as far as competition, they can be great,” Borelli said.

Junior Olivia Smith said she felt like the win at Oklahoma was a big turning point for the team.

“Everyone is starting to feel better, and we had a good a win last week,” Smith said. “I think we all realized team spirit is important and we came together.”

Borelli said it was the team’s first big road trip and it created a stronger camaraderie.

“It’s so weird, this group doesn’t care where they play in the lineup,” Borelli said. “All they want to do is go out and play, compete and do their best and win.”

Last season, TCU lost 6-1 to Texas A&M on the road.

“They killed us last year and they’ve gotten better. We’ve gotten better too,” Borelli said. “We’ve had further to go to improve as a team but I certainly think we’re as good as they are.”

Smith said she thinks the team has a good shot to defeat A&M because the pressure is on them.

“It’s going to come down to one key match, one key person and that’s how it goes,” Borelli said. “I think they are a top 25 program right now, as we are too. It would be a real positive win for us.”
