Baseball hosts Oklahoma State

This weekend the TCU baseball team will face the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a three games series at Brown Lupton Stadium.

TCU is currently on a three-game losing streak. Tuesday, the Frogs were shut out for the first time in 165 games by Texas State.

“We’ve got to pitch better, play better defense and get some timely hits,” head coach Jim Schlossnagle said.

Oklahoma State will come into the series hot, winning five of its last six games. The Cowboys have batted .273 as a team and the pitching staff has an ERA of 3.46.

The Frogs have batted .244 with an ERA of 3.90.

Junior outfielder Kyle Von Tungeln said the Frogs are backed into a corner and need to have a “bulldog mentality” going into this series.

TCU would start Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, Andrew Mitchell (0-1, 3.27 ERA) on the mound for opening game of the series.

Mitchell said the key for him to pitch well was to throw strikes and to keep the ball down. Mitchell would set the tone for the rest of the series.

Von Tungeln and senior outfielder Jason Coats led the Frogs in batting average at a .345 clip. Coats is second on the team with 5 RBI’s while senior outfielder Zac Jordan leads with 6 RBI’s.

Stefan Crichton (0-0, 4.82 ERA) would be starting pitcher for TCU on Saturday. Trey Teakell (0-1, 7.71 ERA) would pitch the final game of the series on Sunday.

TCU has 10 new players on the roster while Oklahoma State has 24 new players.
Oklahoma State has a 13-8 all time record against TCU, but the last time these two teams meet, the Frogs took the series 2-1.
