Plans for Trayvon Martin march confirmed

TCU’s NAACP chapter is planning a march to express the member’s opinions on the recent shooting death of Florida teen, Trayvon Martin.

The case has sparked national anger and protests. President Barack Obama weighed in Friday, calling the shooting a tragedy and saying, "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids."

George Zimmerman, the crime watch volunteer who confronted the unarmed black teenager because he thought he looked "suspicious," and then shot him, told police he killed Martin, 17, in self-defense.

There are plans for a march, named "Walking in Colors," at the university’s campus next Monday, according to an email from TCU NAACP Vice President Gabrielle McBay.

TCU NAACP President Te Jay Johnson said the group expects 250 people to attend the march. Phi Beta Sigma and Black Student Association will also be in attendence, he said.

TCU's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People members attended one of the multiple marches held across the nation on Monday at the University of Texas at Arlington campus.
