Reports: LSU’s Trent Johnson will be hired as new men’s basketball coach

LSU’s Trent Johnson will be hired as TCU’s new men’s basketball coach, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday.

Johnson will be introduced at a press conference Monday, according to the report.

Johnson will replace Jim Christian, who accepted the job at Ohio University on Tuesday.

Johnson has gone 58-59 in four seasons at LSU, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors in 2009 after guiding the Tigers to a 27-8 record and an SEC title.

Johnson spent four seasons as Stanford's head coach from 2004-2008, compiling an 80-48 record and taking the Cardinal to the Sweet 16 in 2008. Johnson also took Nevada to the Sweet 16 in 2004.

Johnson makes around $1.2 million a year at LSU, according to the report. That means TCU would likely have to pay Johnson more than twice what it was paying Christian, who was making around $590,000 a year.
