The TCU Campaigns team is headed to nationals after placing first in district at the National Student Advertising Competition.
The team is comprised of students from the Strategic Communication Advertising Competition class. After working in and out of class, the team headed to Shreveport, La. to compete against other universities. At the 39th annual competition, TCU’s team pitched its campaign for the corporate sponsor, Nissan, to a panel of judges.
NSAC gave each team a $100 million account to research and create an advertising campaign incorporating a media plan, account planning and creative execution for Nissan.
Senior strategic communication major Taylor Overbey said the competition was similar to the real world as it was exciting, fun and stressful.
“[The win] made all the late night meetings in the library extremely worth it,” he said. “It was a good chance to be with other people that are just as excited about advertising as I am.”
The team was also awarded best media plan. As media director, Overbey lead the media team to develop ideas outside of the requirements, including revamping Nissan’s website, social media presence and smart phone application.
The team will compete for a national title in June against district winners from across the nation in Austin at the AAF National Conference.
