Carder, McCoy taken on final day of draft

Former TCU linebacker Tank Carder was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the NFL Draft Saturday.

Carder, the 147th overall pick and 12th of the fifth round, was the first TCU player to be selected in the draft, which began Thursday and concludes today.

The Sweeny native was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year last season and earned Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Game honors at the 2010 Rose Bowl, where his two-point conversion pass deflection prevented Wisconsin from tying the game in the fourth quarter.

Former cornerback and return specialist Greg McCoy was also taken Saturday in the seventh round by the Chicago Bears with the 220th overall pick.

McCoy was named Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Year after returning two kickoffs for touchdowns last year.

On Sunday, former defensive end Braylon Broughton and tight end Logan Brock both signed free agent deals.

Broughton, a 6-foot-6, 272 pound Dallas native, signed with the New Orleans Saints while Brock, a Copperas Cove native, signed with the Houston Texans.
