With the start of the inaugural Big 12 season drawing nearer and TCU football fans preparing for it each day, comes the growing atmosphere of support and Horned Frog spirit on campus.

Some may choose to purchase tailgating equipment, some may proclaim their excitement on Facebook, but members of the TCU Band chose to show their spirit in a truly unique way – by flushing all of the toilets in Amon G. Carter Stadium.

Assistant Director of Bands Jeremy Strickland said the band staff was approached by the construction crew to help test the toilets in the stadium to ensure they function in time for the first game.

He said the procedure was standard for brand new facilities in order to clean out any problem areas that might occur.

Drum major Matt Schaul said the band was informed about the event on Tuesday night, and the majority of students were on-board to help.

"A lot of them were excited, but some of them were confused," Schaul said. "Mr. Strickland told us the request was one of the funniest things he ever heard on an answering machine."

After marching to the stadium from Frog Fountain, cheering "flush the toilets" the whole way, the band was split into smaller groups and given instructions from the construction crew.

Members assigned to the men's restrooms would flush each toilet or urinal in sync every four seconds for 10 consecutive minutes. Those in the women's restrooms would flush every six seconds, and those in the family restrooms would flush every two minutes.

One sink per side in each restroom would be kept running throughout the 10 minutes to ensure constant function.

Construction on the stadium continues, but with the help of the TCU Band, there is one fewer thing on the checklist.
