Horned Frogs sweep Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for 4th straight win

The TCU volleyball team picked up its fourth straight sweep Saturday, a 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22) win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the TCU University Recreation Center.

Even though the Horned Frogs pulled off the win, not much went well, head coach Prentice Lewis said.

“They [TAMU-CC] are a very scrappy team," Lewis said. "It was not what we expected. We watched them yesterday, and we saw how good they really were. They beat a very solid Army team, however, our ladies weren’t quite prepared for that, so they have got to get better.”

A game plan was given to TCU prior to the match, but they played opposite of it, Lewis said.

Junior Yvonne Igodan saved the Frogs on several occasions, Lewis said. Her 15th and final kill of the match, followed by an Islander attack error, polished off the 25-22 set three win and 3-0 triumph in the match.

Senior  Megan Munce said Igodan was the go-to player throughout each match when times got hectic.

“We probably had one of our worst matches so far," Munce said. "The whole time it felt really hectic. We never really calmed down as a team. Last night went so smooth and today was the opposite."

Igodan said TAMU-CC took her by surprise, and that TCU will need to improve a lot before the match against Army tonight at 7 p.m.

“As a team we need to get more excited," Igodan said. "For myself, I want to improve my blocking technique. Hitting is going very well, but my footwork needs some improvement. Tonight will be the test."

The Frogs improved to 4-1 with the win, while TAMU-CC dropped to 4-2. TCU put itself in position to capture the TCU Nike Invitational with a win over the Black Knights tonight. The Frogs beat SMU 3-0 Friday night.
