SMU enters the Battle for the Iron Skillet with former Texas Longhorn quarterback Garrett Gilbert under center. Gilbert and the Mustangs put up three points in their last game, a 48-3 loss to Texas A&M.

Including Gilbert, here are three Mustangs to watch for Saturday night when they host TCU:

Garrett Gilbert, quarterback, junior

Garret Gilbert threw for 203 yards and an interception against the Aggies. The Austin native is averaging 231.3 yards per game and completed passes to 10 different receivers. Gilbert has a 92.8 passer efficiency rating and a 52.8 completion percentage in his first season with the Mustangs. He underwent shoulder surgery that ended his 2011 campaign.

Zach Line, running back, senior

Zach Line had 107 of the Mustangs’ 130 rushing yards against Texas A & M two weeks ago. Line averaged 6.5 yards per carry against the Aggies. The Oxford, Mich. native has 14 receptions for 95 yards on the season. The preseason All-Conference USA selection and Maxwell Award candidate leads the team with 394 all-purpose yards over three games. Line rushed for 120 yards in the Mustangs' upset win over TCU last season.

Ja’Gared Davis, linebacker, senior

Ja’Gared Davis ranks second on the team with 19 tackles this season including three tackles for loss. He forced a fumble and returned one 34 yards for a touchdown against Stephen F. Austin. The Crockett native earned preseason All-Conference USA honors and is on the Butkus Award Watch List, an award give to the nation’s best linebacker.
