Losing is not an option for men’s club soccer

Losing is not an option for mens club soccer

Satuday's game against the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks will determine whether or not the Frogs will advance to regionals.

The men's club soccer team is currently No. 8 in the regional rankings with an overall season record of 2-2-1.

The Frogs have everything to lose, Head Coach Kenneth Christensen said. A loss this weekend would take the team out of contention for regionals.

"We need some of the more experienced guys like Mike Offutt, Milton Geist, Travis Hayden and Matt Speanburg to really step up, Christensen said.

The team is coming off of a 1-1 tie with Southern Methodist University last Friday and a forfeit to Texas Tech last Sunday.

The Frogs' strength going into Saturday's game is the versatility of their players, which gives the team greater endurance throughout the entire game, Christensen said.

An area that still needs improvement is the team's finishing, he said.

"We need to be a lot more ruthless and clinical when we get chances to score a goal," Christensen said.

The last time these two teams met the Frogs defeated the Mavericks 9-2.

The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at UTA.
