TCU women’s soccer falls to Oklahoma, 3-1

Brittany Slyman scored TCU’s only goal as the TCU Women’s soccer team was defeated in its match against the University of Oklahoma Sunday afternoon, 3-1.

The Horned Frogs started out aggressively in the first period, taking a lot of shots on the offensive end.  Kelly Johnson led the way with 3 shot attempts but was unable to tally a goal.

After a media timeout, the Sooners went on the offensive and took over the half. After a corner kick forced by Frogs’ midfielder Bobbi Clemmer, OU sophomore Abby Hodgen took a shot that was stopped by TCU goalie Vittoria Arnold.

The Frogs got another opportunity to get on the board as an OU penalty led to an indirect free kick for Clemmer. She threw to ball into the goal box but the header shot by Maddy Courvoisier sailed over the goal post.

OU took possession of the ball and drove downfield to fire off two more shots, which were off target. The Sooners proved that the third time’s the charm as Emily Bowman headed a corner kick fielded by Hodgen in for a goal in the 32nd minute of the period.

The Sooners dominated possession after the intermission, getting off eight shots in 17 minutes of the second half. Just as the Horned Frogs were able to regain some offensive aggressiveness, Sooner goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire was able to clear a ball to Renae Ceullar who got past defense and got off a shot into the lower corner of the goal. The goal pushed OU’s lead to 2-0.

The Sooners were able to score again in the second period as Jessica Johnson shot a ball from 38 yards away from the goal that sailed over the head of the Frogs' back-up goalkeeper Alicen Wright.

The Frogs were finally able to get a goal when Slyman fired a shot that was deflected by the keeper, but gathered the rebound and put the ball in the net. The goal was Slyman’s fourth on the season.

TCU’s loss pushed their record to 5-8-2. The Frogs take on the Texas Tech University Red Raiders this Friday night at Garvey Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
