Horned Frogs to take on SMU in Fort Worth on Thursday

Horned Frogs to take on SMU in Fort Worth on Thursday

Last season, SMU made a run late to beat the Frogs 68-62 in Dallas. Now, the Mustangs make their return to Fort Worth. Both teams are undefeated and have acquired new coaches since their Feb. 8 matchup last season.

This also marks the 11th straight time the teams have met as non-conference opponents. For nearly 80 years prior, the teams played together in the Southwest and Western Athletic conferences.

The Frogs are currently 2-0. After struggling to find their offense in a 53-46 win over Cal Poly, TCU seemed to find its rhythm against Centenary on Monday.

In the 75-47 win, four Horned Frogs scored in double digits. Senior forward Adrick McKinney led the charge with 16 points. Senior forward Connell Crossland made a career-high 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kyan Anderson currently leads the team, averaging 11.5 points, 1.5 steals and 3.0 assists per game.

SMU also comes into the game undefeated at 1-0. In Larry Brown's first game as head coach, the Mustangs ran away with a 73-58 win over Loyola Marymount. Kansas State transfer Nick Russell had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in SMU's first and only game of the season so far.

Both teams will fight to remain undefeated and claim bragging rights for the rest of the season.

The Frogs and Mustangs play Thursday at 7 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
