Men’s basketball to play Prairie View A&M at 3 p.m.

The TCU men’s basketball team will return to the court Sunday against Prairie View A&M following its first loss of the season.

Prairie View A&M’s visit to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum is part of the South Padre Island Invitational. The Frogs will play two home games and then travel to South Padre Island Friday to finish the tournament.

TCU fell 64-61 to SMU and dropped to 2-1 on the season. Junior forward Amric Fields injured his right knee of the first play of the game. He earned the Sixth Man of the Year Award in the Mountain West last season.

Fields is the second Frog to suffer a knee injury this season. Freshman center Aaron Durley tore his ACL at an October practice.

Senior forward Garlon Green led the Frogs with 20 points and nine rebounds against SMU. Green averages a team-high 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Prairie View A&M lost guard Louis Munks to a season-ending injury with 6:02 left in its 81-59 defeat to Texas A&M. Munks had four points and four rebounds against the Aggies. The Panthers moved to 2-2 on the season.

Jourdan DeMuynck and Josh Eleby lead Prairie View A&M with 12.7 and 10 points per game respectively. DeMuynck also grabs 5.7 rebounds per game.

Prairie View A&M returned all five starters from a squad that finished third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference last season. The Panthers also added University of Oklahoma transfer guard Carl Blair.

“Prairie View A&M is a very similar type team to SMU,” TCU head coach Trent Johnson said. “They’re favored to win the SWAC conference and it’s gonna be a tough matchup for us come Sunday.”

TCU leads the all-time series against Prairie View A&M 3-0. The two teams last met in 2010 when the Frogs beat the Panthers 78-61.

Tip-off is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.
