TCU has 18 All-Big 12 honorees headed to Tempe, Ariz., including the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year Devonte Fields. Fields earned multiple player of the year honors and helped The Frog defense holdvopponents to 23.1 points per game, good for second in the Big 12 behind Kansas State.

“We knew Devonte Fields was a good player, but I didn't know he could be a first team Big 12 player,” Patterson said.  “He hasn't even tapped how good he can be as far as when he gets stronger, faster and grows into his body.”

    Devonte Fields, defensive end, freshman

Fields topped the Big 12 with 17.5 sacks as a true freshman. He also ranked second with nine sacks, just half a sack behind Meshak Williams from Kansas State. Fields also had an interception, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and three pass breakups this season. The Arlington native was named the Associated Press Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection for Defensive Freshmen of the Year by league coaches.

    Jason Verrett, cornerback, junior

Verrett has made four All-America teams and has earned first-team All-Big 12 honors for his performance on the field this season. He grabbed a conference-leading six interceptions and 20 defended passes, both of which rank in the top 10 nationally. The Fairfield, Calif., native also blocked a field goal against West Virginia in overtime in a game the Frogs went on to win. Verrett was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year by San Antonio Express-News.

    B.J. Catalon, running back, freshman

Catalon led the Frogs rushing attack with 46.8 yards per game and 4.8 yards per carry. He had carries in every game this season including a career-high 17 against Baylor. The Houston native rushed for a team and career-high 86 yards in the loss to Iowa State. Catalon had 116 carries on the year, two more than quarterback Trevone Boykin and six more than running back Matthew Tucker. Catalon was a honorable-mention selection for Offensive Freshman of the Year by the Big 12 coaches.
