TCU men's tennis hopes to have number one attendance by the end of the 2013 season with the help of a sorority challenge.

The men were ranked third in attendance for the 2012 season, head coach David Roditi said.

Roditi said he got the idea for a sorority challenge mid-season last year from a former co-worker at Mississippi State.

“It was an immediate success and brought a lot of great atmosphere from our fans, and the guys love it,” Roditi said. “It’s a great way to get involved with the program.”

This year, sororities can decorate the locker room, keep score on the courts and select walk up songs for the players.

The sororities can win in two different categories: best match attendance and best season attendance. Members of Alpha Delta Pi held the match against Texas A&M with the theme of Mardi Gras.

Melanie Darrouzet, a first-year member of Alpha Delta Pi, said, “We put posters up in the locker room and streamers around the courts.”

Players said they have noticed a difference and appreciate the support.

“Attendance has gone up the most I’ve ever seen. The competition has been amazing for fans and even more amazing for the players,” sophomore tennis player Blake Wiggins said.

The next home match will be Feb. 26, with Zeta Tau Alpha hosting that game.
