Frogs host Jayhawks Wednesday evening

The Kansas Jayhawks and the TCU women's basketball team will meet for the first time as Big 12 conference foes Wednesday evening in Fort Worth.

Both squads come in to the matchup right after losing efforts. Kansas fell at home Saturday to West Virginia 72-56. The Frogs will look to rebound after a loss to Texas Tech, as well.

Perhaps the biggest story before tip-off will be the still-present aftereffects of the Feb. 6 upset by the university men's squad.

By the time the university women's team (7-15, 0-11 Big 12) and Kansas (14-8, 5-6 Big 12) tip-off Wednesday evening, it will mark the one week anniversary of the men's upset of then No. 5 Kansas.

Head coach Jeff Mittie and the women's team have not won a game since Dec. 29. Before the university men's team defeated the Jayhawks last week, they had not won since Dec. 30.

On Sept. 15, 2012, TCU's football team captured its first Big 12 win in program history with a 20-6 victory in Lawrence over Kansas. The men's upset last week was its first taste of Big 12 victory, too.

TCU and Kansas have only met one time in their respective histories. TCU won 74-69 on a neutral court in Freeport, Bahamas, in the 2009 Junkanoo Jam.

Senior Delisa Gross is the only Frog on the current roster who participated in that matchup. Gross scored nine points and collected two rebounds in 17 minutes as a freshman.

The Frogs will try to slow down the Jayhawks' senior duo of Carolyn Davis (15.2 points per game) and Angel Goodrich (13.2 points per game). Both players rank in the top 10 in Big 12 scoring averages per game.

TCU sophomore Natalie Ventress will look to continue her productive scoring in February. She is averaging over 20 points per game the last three contests. Including her freshman season, Ventress has eclipsed the 20 point mark in five games played in February.

The Wednesday matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
