Not deciding on a college major can be risky, but it can also put you on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list.
Liliana Hart, a TCU graduate from the Dallas area, is now a USA Today Best-Selling author of romantic mysteries and suspense novels. Her 23rd book, "Dirty Little Secrets," was released last December and was listed at #62 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list for the week of Jan. 31.
“'Dirty Little Secrets' is the first book in my J.J. Graves Mystery Series,” Hart said in an email. “She's [Graves] a medical doctor who's had to come home to her small town of Bloody Mary, Virginia, to take over her parents' mortuary business after they were tragically killed under suspicious circumstances.”
Hart said she began writing her freshman year and worked on several books during her time at the university. She said she did not finish her first novel, however, until after she graduated.
“I never finished, which is key,” Hart said. “I finally decided I would finish that first book no matter what in 2005, and I've never looked back.”
Even though she has become a very successful writer, Hart was not part of the Writing Program at TCU. It was not until she graduated that she determined what she wanted to do in life.
“I never really felt settled in any one major because I didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life,” Hart said. “I refused to just pick a major and settle for a career I'd be miserable with for the rest of my life.”
After starting off as a music education major, she switched to art history. Then she chose a general studies major and a minor in art history, she said.
“When you do something you love, it doesn't seem like work. It makes every day fun,” Hart said. “So if you're one of those people switching majors every semester, there could be a reason for it.”
