Fort Worth ISD searching for interns

Fort Worth ISD searching for interns

The Fort Worth Independent School District has issued a press release in search of servant leader interns.

Sharon Herrera, a student engagement and school completion program specialist for FWISD, said the interns will be helping at-risk students who need a little push.

Leigh Holland, an administrative assistant at TCU, sent an email to students on behalf of FWISD on Feb. 8.

Danna Diaz, director of student engagement and school completion, drafted the email in search of "outstanding servant leader interns to work with high school students at Trimble Tech High School."

FWISD is asking for interns who are between 19-30 years old, have completed at least one year of college and plan to receive a college degree.

"Servant leader interns must be mature, smart and responsible and should be selected for their energy and enthusiasm, their ability to engage children and their willingness to work hard with a spirit of servant leadership," Diaz said in her email.

Interns will go through training and be responsible for leading a maximum of 10 students in classroom activities.

Herrera explained that the application process includes interviews. Copies of transcripts and resumes are required. The application deadline is Feb. 22.

Interns will be hired as consultants and are expected to attend the CDF Freedom Schools' local and state training this summer, according to the press release from Diaz.

Herrera said students who volunteer for the program will receive a life changing experience.

"When a young adult participates, not only will he/she see a change in the lives of the students and families they serve, but also they will see a change in themselves," Diaz said. "I have been with Fort Worth ISD for six years, and the relationships that I have developed in the community are phenomenal. There are a few that I call my brothers and sisters. We have a common vision, and it is to serve youth with passion."
