After losing players due to grades or the inability to pay the increased dues, the university's hockey club finished the 2012-2013 season 3-15.

The team’s season began in the fall and ended Sunday as the Horned Frogs fell to UTSA. The season ended with two injured players for the team, one injury being a broken wrist and the other a torn ACL.

Throughout the season, the team faced other Texas schools apart of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

“It was our first year, and we certainly had our ups and our downs," Michael Authier, team captain, said. "The core group of players really put their hearts into the club and made it a successful season."

Authier said the year was a learning experience for all the members involved, and the team anticipates improving next year.

"None of us had ever started a hockey team before, and now that the inaugural season is complete, we know where we can improve and are looking forward to next season,” he said.

Ryan Acuff, a forward for the team, said the team operated on donations fromTexas Brahmas, a professional hockey team located in North Richland Hills that shares the NYTEX Sports Centre as home ice with the Horned Frogs. He said the team turned to the Brahmas after Student Government Association was "unsupportive" for financial backing.

The team will be making changes for the next season to accommodate the players by having one practice weekly instead of two. This will make it easy to incorporate more games into the schedule and maybe add some out of state, Acuff said.
