Club tennis heads to Austin for tournament

The university's club tennis team is heading to Austin to compete against multiple university club and intramural teams for three days in the USTA Tennis On Campus Championship Texas Sectionals tournament this weekend.

The team is looking to recover from a two game losing streak in which the team fell to UTA 24-16 and SMU 30-9.

The club's last win came against the University of Texas at Dallas when the TCU men's singles and doubles teams defeated UTD 15-14 in the first round and 18-10 in the second round. The women's scores against UTD were not available.

Evan Cliff, the team's coordinator, said he believes that lack of focus and spirit contributed to the losses last weekend. He said he hopes the team will be more mentally focused and spirited during the tournament in Austin.

“Knowing that it was such a small tournament, we were not as pumped up as we would be when it’s a bigger tournament," Cliff said.

The tournament will take place in Austin at the University of Texas intramural courts. The first game begins Friday at 11 a.m., and the tournament lasts until Sunday afternoon.
