Cooper Robinson is TCU swimming and diving’s first-ever Big 12 Champion after competing in the Big 12 Championships in Austin over the weekend.

Robinson’s win in the 200-yard backstroke, helped lead the Horned Frog men to a second place overall finish behind the Texas Longhorns, who have won 17 consecutive Big 12 titles.

The TCU men were able to overcome West Virginia for second place after a comeback, finishing with 798 points over West Virginia’s 788 points.

The TCU women’s team finished in third place with 574 points, only two points behind second place winner West Virginia, with 576. The Longhorns claimed the Big 12 title on the women’s end, as well.

In the diving well, Curtis Muller claimed TCU’s first individual silver medal of the meet with 263.20 points. Ricky Bradley won third place, finishing with 233.75 points.

Luiz Azarias earned the Horned Frogs’ second silver medal for the 200-yard butterfly.

Besides earning individual wins for the Horned Frogs, many school records were also broken at the Big 12 Championships.

Ali Bleasdell broke TCU’s school record in the 200-yard IM final, finishing fourth with a time of two minutes, 1.04 seconds.

Bleasdell broke another school record in the 400-yard medley relay with teammates Ali Polhill, Gabi Korac and Sabine Rasch. The relay group broke the TCU record in the 200-yard medley relay as well.

In the women’s 50-yard freestyle, Senior Parris Schoppa became the second swimmer in TCU history to go under 23 seconds in the sprint.

The men’s 800-yard freestyle relay of team of Adam Szilagyi, Sebastian Arispe, Josh Mangus and Thor Stenfjord became the second fastest group in that event for TCU, with their third place finish of 6:37.59.

The season is not over yet for the Horned Frogs. The women’s team will compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in two weeks. The men’s team will have competitors return to Austin for the All-American meet next week.
