The university's pre-law club gives prospective law school students the resources necessary to prepare themselves for the application process and future.

“The pre-law club is an organization which is meant to bring together undergraduate students who are interested or considering pursuing law school after graduation,” Jason Jorgens, a senior business information systems and club president, said. “It is meant to help them understand what law school and what being a lawyer entails.”

The club brings in guest speakers such as local attorneys or law professors to talk about subjects they are interested in and give students the chance to ask questions, Jorgens said.

“The club allows students to meet one another to form connections, and it allows students who are somewhat curious about law school to learn more about what the legal field is like," Katherine Leuschel, a senior political science and French double major, said.

“Applying to law schools is a fairly competitive process. A student has to study hard for the LSAT and work hard on maintaining a high GPA in order to be accepted at the top law schools in the country,” Leuschel said.

Leuschel, who will be starting her first year of law school at the University of Texas in the fall, said being in the club has helped her with LSAT preparations and creating a timeline for law school admissions.

Sophomore journalism major Paulina Blanc said the club provides students with resources on how and where to study for the LSAT.

“I think the best benefit of our club is that it's just a group of people with a common goal of going to law school, and we can bounce ideas not only on the speakers but also each other,” Blanc said.“It's nice to have a group of people to collaborate with when there isn’t many pre-law school students on campus.”

There are about 50 students in the club this semester, Jorgens said.

Upcoming meetings are March 4, March 25, April 8 and April 22 at 7 p.m. in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom.
