After cycling through six pitchers and allowing three runs late in the game, TCU dropped a 6-4 loss to University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Lupton Stadium Tuesday night. 

“The lowest moment in the history of the program,” head coach Jim Schlossnagle said. “Not one thing from the game we can take as positive.”

Junior right-hander Stefan Crichton had a shaky start on the mound. The Golden Lions threatened to score in the first but unable to come up with runs until the second inning. 

UAPB was on the board first with three runs after six singles and an error. With the bases loaded, Warren Stehn singled to give the Golden Lions the 1-0 lead. Dylan Calhoun made the game 2-0 with a hit up the middle and an error allowed the third run to score.

Junior transfer Trevor Seidenberger relieved Crichton in the top of the third, pitching two scoreless innings, striking out four batters and allowing one hit. 

The Frogs made it competitive in the third, when third baseman Jantzen Witte tripled to deep right field, scoring Dylan Fitzgerald and Cody Jones to make the game 3-2. 

TCU gained control of the game in the fifth inning when the bases got loaded through a walk, a bunt and a hit-by-pitch batter.  

UAPB left-hander Staten Jones dealt four balls to Witte, walking in Kyle Bacak to tie the game. First basemen Kevin Cron gave the Frogs their first lead when he hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Jones to put TCU up 4-3.

TCU couldn’t keep up the momentum, however, as the team collapsed in the seventh inning. With two outs, Kirby Campbell was hit by a pitch and kept the inning alive for UAPB. A passed ball allowed the tying run to score. Isias Alcantar doubled to put the Golden Lions back on top, then UAPB added an unearned run in the eighth inning to push its lead to 6-4.

The Frogs couldn’t rally back, as the team dropped to 3-8 on the season. Next up, TCU opens a three-game series Friday against University of the Pacific. First pitch is 6:30 p.m.
