Students planning on flying out of town could face delays depending on how thunderstorms develop this weekend.

Thunderstorms are expected to move into the Dallas-Fort Worth area early Saturday morning and stay the entire weekend, according to The Weather Channel's website.



DFW International Airport officials said that the chance of delays is always a threat when there is severe weather forecasted. They are going to do all they can to make sure everything runs smoothly and is on time, officials said.

Dallas Love Field officials said the travel on spring break is always extra busy, especially the first weekend. The weather could play a factor in students’ travel this weekend, and they will have to wait and see how severe the weather gets.

There is a 70 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms and potential for severe storms on Saturday as well as a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms on Sunday, according to The Weather Channel. Friday does not have as severe of a threat of inclement weather because it is projected for a few showers that day.

Sophomore finance major Adam Newton said he and his friends are driving to their spring break destination, so the weather should not affect their travel plans.

However, the weather might affect sophomore strategic communication major Lauren Pfeifer's plans.



"I am supposed to fly out Saturday afternoon for spring break. I really hope my flight doesn't get cancelled. That would be a bummer and a major hassle for me," Pfeifer said.
