Cold Stone’s grand opening offers free ice cream

Cold Stone plans to give free ice cream coupons for a year to the first 50 customers in line that buy a Cold Stone product during its grand opening Saturday morning.

The first 50 customers will get a coupon sheet that will have one free ice cream each month for a year. Students can bring those into the store and redeem them at that point, Tim Moriarty, owner of Cold Stone, said.

The free ice cream is considered one of Cold Stone’s Signature Creation “like-size” option, Moriarty said.

“I’ve heard some people talking [about how] they’re going to camp out for a couple of hours before. If you want your free ice cream, it seems like you’re going to have to work for it a little bit,” Jimmy Cummings, a sophomore early childhood education major, said.

“I’m getting here an hour early, so I can be one of those first 50 customers,” Kelsey Taylor, a sophomore film major, said.

Cold Stone plans to give away an additional 50 free coupons through a raffle and three $150 gift cards.

“They can write their name [and] phone number on the back of the ticket. They keep half. We keep half. And we’ll draw at the end of the day and call them,” Moriarty said.

Cold Stone opened March 1st but will have cakes, ice cream cupcakes and cookie sandwiches ready for its grand opening on Saturday, March 23, Moriarty said.

The doors will open around 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., Moriarty said.

“We are going to try and create a positive atmosphere here and do the best we can and serve everybody,” Cummings said.
