TCU track and field wins nine events at weekend tournaments

    The TCU Track and Field team earned nine wins and a school record this weekend at the Baylor Quad Meet in Waco and the Bobby Lane Invitational at UT-Arlington.

    Megan Smith won the women’s shot put on Saturday with a throw of 16.28 meters, breaking a personal record of 16.10 meters, which she set last weekend at the TCU Invitational.

    Smith also placed second in women’s discus and set a school record with a throw of 50.33 meters.

    On Friday, Charles Silmon and Agnes Kemboi won two races each at the Baylor Quad Meet.

    Kemboi won the women’s 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:31.29 minutes. She also won the women’s 3,000-meter run in 9:54.04 minutes.

    TCU took first and second place in the women’s 3000-meter run, with Ashley Eckhoff placing second in 10:02.65 minutes.

    Silmon won the men’s 100-meter dash in 10.30 seconds. He won the 200-meter dash in 21.32 seconds, followed by Ronnie Baker and Harvey McSwain in second and third.

    Both the men’s and women’s 4×100 meter relay teams won on Friday. The men’s team won with a time of 39.91 seconds and included Charles Silmon, Ramone Bailey, Ronnie Baker, and Harvey McSwain.

    Other first place finishers included Lavon Collins in the men’s 400-meter hurdles and Ramone Bailey in the men’s long jump.

    Head coach Darryl Anderson said this meet was a preparation for their first big meet, the Texas Relays. The meet begins on Thursday in Austin.
