Seven runs in the fourth inning were the key to an 11-4 TCU win over the UT-Arlington Mavericks Tuesday night, as the Horned Frogs extended their win streak to two games.

TCU found six hits and an error in the fourth inning, starting with Boomer White's leadoff single.

Paul Hendrix followed up with a single up the middle to move White to third. Another single, this time from Jantzen Witte, allowed White to score. Witte moved to second on the play and Hendrix advanced to third. 

A single from Derek Odell brought in both Hendrix and Witte to make it 3-0 with no outs recorded. Odell’s two RBIs gave him a team-leading seventh multiple-RBI game.

After a Jerrick Suiter pop out, Brett Johnson reached first on a fielding error, then moved up a base with a ground out. A walk to Kyle Bacak set up a bases-clearing double from Cody Jones, giving TCU a 6-0 advantage and marking the second game in a row that a TCU player has hit a bases-clearing double.

White capped off the inning with a hit in his second at-bat of the inning to score Jones, making the score 7-0.

Hendrix came up for his second at-bat, but grounded out to third base to end the top half of the inning.

The seven runs tied a season-high for the number of runs scored in one inning. The last time the Frogs scored seven runs in an inning was against Jacksonville in March.

The Mavericks answered in the bottom half, though, scoring three of their four runs.

Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for the Mavericks’ Greg McCall before any outs. A single brought in UTA’s first run of the game, while a wild pitch in the next at-bat allowed the second runner to score, making the game 7-2.

A sacrifice fly from Brandon Lawrence brought in the third and final run of the inning. After a strike out and a hit batter, sophomore righty Trey Teakell came in for TCU starter Stefan Crichton. Teakell gave up a single, but got an infield pop up to end the inning.

TCU added to its lead in the eighth inning, after having chances earlier in the game. Another leadoff single started it for the Frogs. After Bacak’s hit, Jones walked to put two runners on. This brought up Hendrix who notched his second career three-run home run, and his third home run of the season.

Both TCU and UTA tacked on final runs in the ninth inning.

Three straight walks to Frog batters brought up freshman pinch hitter Travis Hennessey, who grounded out, giving him his first career RBI and an 11-3 score for the Horned Frogs.

A Cody Dyvig triple set up the UTA’s final run. A wild pitch during Daniel Garcia’s at-bat allowed Dyvig to score to make the final score 11-4.

Junior right-hander Crichton started the game and stayed in for 3 and 2/3 innings. He gave up three runs on five hit, walking one and striking out two.

Teakell, who was credited with the win, pitched 3 and 1/3 innings. In his 13 and 2/3 innings of relief pitching this season, Teakell (2-0) has not given up a run.

UTA (20-16) went through seven pitchers throughout the game. Starter John Beck was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs on seven hits in his 3 and 2/3 innings. He walked one batter and struck out one.

The win gives TCU a 17-20 overall record. The Frogs return to Lupton Stadium Friday night for a three-game home series against the Baylor Bears.
