The TCU men’s tennis team is headed to Norman, Okla. for its first appearance in the Big 12 Men’s Tennis Championships.

The No. 4-seeded Horned Frogs will open the tournament Friday at 9 a.m. against the fifth-seeded Texas Tech University. The rematch between the two teams comes only one week after TCU beat Texas Tech in a 4-3 home decision April 19.

“With a rematch, I know we have a better idea about Tech’s team, but they also have a better idea about our team,” head coach David Roditi said. “At the end of the day, it’s still about fundamentals and willingness to compete.”

The winner of Friday’s TCU-Tech match will advance to a Saturday semifinal match-up with the top-seeded University of Baylor at noon.

TCU concluded its regular season Sunday after a 5-2 loss on the road against Baylor. The loss put TCU at 17-8 overall record and 2-3 in Big 12 play. The win gave Baylor a perfect 5-0 run though their league schedule.

Despite the loss, the Frogs became the only conference team to take more than one point against the undefeated Baylor Bears this season.

The final match of the Big 12 Championships will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, which begin May 10.

Roditi said winning the conference was one of the team’s main goals for the year.

“We have been talking about creating history,” he said. “It’s important to us to be the first TCU team to ever have a Big 12 conference title.”
