Four TCU pitchers held USC to four hits and Jantzen Witte hit a two-out triple in the fifth to help the Horned Frogs win 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Mitchell gave up two hits and walked five in the five innings of work, but didn't surrender a run. He struck out three to improve to 1-1 on the season. Trevor Seidenberger struck out two and walked two in his 1 1/3 innings. Riley Ferrell gave up two hits and struck out two in 2/3 of an inning. Alex Young picked up his fifth save of the season with two scoreless innings pitched.

In each of the first five innings, each team had runners on base, but neither team could come up with the big hit to break the scoreless tie.

TCU had the best opportunity in the second after a lead-off walk to Jerrick Suiter and a hit from Derek Odell. Suiter stole third to put runners on the corners with only one out. The Frogs tried a suicide squeeze, but the bunt went right to the pitcher and the Trojans tagged Suiter out at home.

Mitchell stranded four runners through the first four innings. His biggest jam came in the first when he had a pair of two-out base runners. Mitchell got out of the jam as Suiter hauled in a line drive of the bat of Blake Lacey to end the inning.

The Horned Frogs finally scored in the fifth inning. Cody Jones singled with one out and moved to second on a hard-earned walk to Paul Hendrix with two outs. Jantzen Witte lined a triple to left center to give the Frogs a 2-0 lead.

A hit batter to lead off the sixth inning led to another TCU run. Pinch runner Davy Wright was safe at second on a potential double play ball after the throw from third pulled the second baseman off the bag. Another hit batter and a walk loaded the bases with two outs. Boomer White's third hit of the afternoon drove in Wright to make it a 3-0 game.

USC brought the tying run to the plate in each of the seventh and eight innings, but each time the Horned Frogs were able to turn an inning-ending double play.

In the seventh, Paul Hendrix hauled in a line drive and doubled off the runner at second to end the frame.

The first two hitters reached in the bottom of the eighth, prompting TCU to go to the bullpen and call on Alex Young. The freshman got a strikeout for the first out, then got James Roberts to hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play.

TCU improved to 23-24 overall on the season. The Horned Frogs will take the week off for finals and return to the diamond Friday night for a key three-game road series at West Virginia. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
