The construction of Rees-Jones Hall is on schedule to be completed in August 2014, James Lutz, director of Library Administrative Services said.

The building is being constructed with funds from the Rees-Jones Foundation's recent $20 million endowment to the TCU Institute of Child Development.

Lutz said the new building will be home to the Institute of Energy, the Institute of Child Development and will house one floor called the Ideas Factory.

Each floor will be composed of classrooms that hold up to 60 students, group study rooms and global seminar rooms, Lutz said.

He said the global seminar room will offer students the chance to be taught by a professor from half-way around the globe with other students from that country as well.

The building will be a combination of all the departments on campus and the TCU Registrar’s Office will determine which classes will be held in the building, Lutz said.

This gives TCU the opportunity to have a building that isn't dedicated to a sole department or school within the university, Lutz said. The university will be given a chance to have its very first collaborative building and Lutz said he sees nothing but success in the future.

Two bridges will connect the library and the Rees-Jones Hall to allow students to travel between the buildings, Lutz said.

Although the construction of the new building has eliminated a parking lot outside of the library, additional spaces have been added to the lot at the intersection of West Lowden Street and Lubbock Avenue for commuters.

Renovations of the Mary Couts Burnett Library are scheduled to begin in May 2014.
