Roxo, the on-campus strategic communication agency, will be hosting the first of several “Hands-On Friday,” events Sept. 13.

The two-hour event is open to strategic communication majors and will cover the basics of videography. Students in attendance will learn how to operate a video camera, edit videos with iMovie and develop storyboards.

Faculty Adviser of Roxo, Margaret Ritsch, described it as “the tip of the iceberg.”

The first two workshops will cover videography and camera techniques. The last two will focus on creating digital news releases and how to target specific audiences through these releases.

Ritsch said, “2013 has been the year of video,” and is urging seniors to attend because more employers are expecting entry-level employees to have a clear understanding on many aspects of media and communication.

“We are trying to address areas in the curriculum that are falling short of giving the students practical skills that are needed in the job market today,” she said.

The event will take place in the Roxo room, Moudy South, Room 215, from noon to 2 p.m. Friday. Due to limited space, the event is open to 16 participants. To RSVP for this event contact Callie Cunyus at [email protected].
