College students seem to have a reliance on caffeine to get them through lectures and late night study sessions, but there are healthier alternatives to power through the day.

North Carolina defeats TCU in swim and dive meet

The TCU swimming and diving team was defeated by North Carolina Saturday afternoon at the University Recreation Center Natatorium during the first dual meet of the season.

The men’s team lost 188-109 while the women lost to the Tarheels 200-97. The meet was the season opener for the men while it was the second meet for the women, who had defeated Kansas Thursday.

The team won two free-style relay titles and earned four event crowns. Freshman  Adam Szilagyi won the first event, the 100-yard backstroke, with a time of 48.9.

Reigning Big 12 200-yard backstroke champion Cooper Robinson dominated the event, winning with a time of 1:46.19, which was three seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

For the women, senior Gabi Korac picked up a win in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.02 while placing third in the 200-yard breaststroke and posting the best time for the Horned Frogs (1:05.75) at the 100-yard breaststroke.

As for the diving team, junior Ricky Bradley posted a 291.68 in 1-meter diving and 309.08 in 3-meter diving. For the women, sophomore Kristen Connolly was TCU’s top finisher from 3-meters with a 256.43 while junior Courtney Cheek paced the Horned Frogs from 1-meter with a 221.03

The TCU women return to the natatorium on Friday, Nov. 1 when they host San Diego State University at 12 p.m. The Horned Frog men are next slated to compete in the Texas Shootout in San Antonio, Texas on Nov. 9.
