Womens tennis suffers its first loss of the season at ITA National Kick-Off

The No. 30 TCU women’s tennis team (3-1, 0-0 Big 12) lost 4-1 to No. 5 UCLA (3-0, 0-0 Pac 12) Saturday in Los Angeles, Cali., ending the Frogs’ chance to play in the ITA Indoor National Championship in February.

The matchup against UCLA was the Frogs’ first loss of the season.

TCU beat No. 38 UC Irvine in Friday’s opening round but fell short to the Bruins in the second round on Saturday.

TCU first-year Seda Arantekin and senior Millie Nichols lost 6-2 against UCLA’s No.1-ranked doubles team Robin Anderson and Jennifer Brady.

The Horned Frogs fought hard against the Bruins in the other two doubles matches, but UCLA’s Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips fought their way to a 7-5 win over TCU juniors Simona Parajova and Stefanie Tan to complete a doubles matches sweep.

TCU’s only point came from Arantekin’s singles match, where the first-year claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

Next the team will play at DePaul on Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
