TCU defensive tackle Jon Lewis leaves football team

Senior defensive tackle Jon Lewis has left the TCU football team after deciding he is done playing football, according to a source close to the team.

Lewis told a different source that football “just wasn’t for [him].”

The defensive tackle and Klein, Texas native was named to the Rivals.com All-Mountain West Freshman Team at the end of the 2011 season. He started the last five games for the Frogs last season.

In his career at TCU, Lewis started 10 total games. He finished his career with 51 total tackles, five and-a-half sacks and 16 tackles for loss.

Lewis’ departure comes less than a week after the Frogs signed 24 new recruits to the team last Wednesday. Among the recruits were two defensive tackle signees in Chris Bradley and LJ Collier.

To go along with Bradley and Collier, TCU has four defensive tackles for next year’s team, including juniors Davion Pierson and Terrell Lathan.

This marks the second-straight offseason that a TCU football member has left the team due to being done with football. Former Frog linebacker Joel Hasley left the team last August for similar reasons.

Despite struggling through a 4-8 record last season, the Frogs had the Big 12’s best rushing defense and second-best total defense.
