“We have had some awfully good swimmers come through our program and to have those kids set a school record is a really, really neat thing for us,” TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said in the release.
The four-man team of junior Cooper Robinson, sophomore Ford Story, sophomore Corey Nix and junior Josh Mangus posted a time of 1:28.13 seconds in the 200 medley relay, which barely broke the old record of 1:28.17 set in 2012.
Robinson, a native of Katy, Texas, was the 2012-2013 TCU Swimming MVP and won a Big 12 Championship last season in the 200 backstroke.
“We feel good about our day today,” Sybesma said. “We are looking forward to Thursday with the individual swimming events. We are OK sitting in second and fifth after the first day.”
With a third-place finish in the event and a strong showing in men’s diving, the men’s team sits in second place in the team standings.
“Our divers did a good job,” Sybesma said.
Junior diver Ricky Bradley led the Frog divers with an eighth-place finish. He was the 2012-2013 TCU Diving MVP.
The TCU women’s team is currently in fifth place in the team standings.
The meet continues for the men at 10 a.m. on Thursday while women’s diving begins at noon. The finals in the women’s 3-meters are set for 5 p.m. with additional finals beginning at 6 p.m.
