The TCU men’s tennis team lost a close match to No. 5 Texas Saturday afternoon by a final score of 4-2.

The Frogs (6-2) kept their momentum going from last week’s success in doubles play, but struggled to earn points in singles matchups.

“We played great doubles today,” TCU head coach David Roditi said in a press release. “We made a good run at them and we were on our way to a victory, but they are well coached and showed why they are the No. 5 team in the nation. Our character will be tested tomorrow playing a very good Tulsa team.”


The No. 18 duo in the country Nick Chappell and Will Stein shut the door with their win in doubles play upsetting No. 8 Soren Hess-Oleson and Lloyd Glasspool, 8-5.



Texas (11-2) struck first against the Frogs with Adrien Berkowicz defeating TCU’s Rondolfo Bustamante, 6-3, 6-3 to tie up the match 1-1. 



TCU dropped the second match when Trey Daniels was defeated by Texas’ Nick Naumann, 7-5, 6-2.



Arnau Dachs continued his powerful play in singles matches giving TCU a crucial point with a victory over No. 60 George Goldhoff, 7-5, 6-3. With Dachs’ point TCU was able even the match score, 2-2.



TCU then dropped the next two matches, both ending in fierce three set battles. 



No. 51 Nick Chappell started off by winning the first set, but then went on to drop two consecutive sets giving Texas the point, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. Texas went on to win the deciding point with Jhonathan Gonzalez fighting to a loss, 4-6, 6-3, 2-6.



The Horned Frogs stay home for their next match against No. 32 Tulsa on March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center.
