The men’s golf team took home a fifth place finish on Tuesday at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.

A cumulative team score of 853 for the tournament gave the Horned Frogs their sixth top-10 finish and fourth top-5 finish of the season. The 54-hole score was their third lowest this year.

Lamar University would go on to win the tournament, firing a team score of 833. Elon followed with a score of 837 and Wofford College right behind with a score of 840.

The Horned Frogs’ performance was highlighted by low rounds from No. 1 Julien Brun, No. 3 Giulio Castagarna and No. 4 Chelso Barrett during the first day of play. Brun and Castagarna each fired a 68, while Barrett carded a 69. Brun would go on to shoot in the 60’s a second day in a row, carding a 69 on day two.

Brun, a native from Antibes, France, narrowly missed winning his eighth career tournament title, finishing in a tie for second at 8-under par for the tournament.

Castagarna, a freshman from Italy, recorded his best career performance for a 54-hole event with a score of 210, marking his first career top-10 finish.

Barrett, a freshman from Keene, N.H., also had a strong performance, shooting a tournament score of 214. It was the third lowest in his career for a 54-hole event and his best outing since February

The Horned Frogs will return to action when they head to Trinity, Texas for the Big 12 Championship. The tournament will be held at Whispering Pines Golf Course from April 25-27.
