Baseball loses series opener to Baylor, Big 12 title hopes dwindling

The Baylor Bears used a pair of three run innings Thursday night to beat the No. 9-ranked TCU baseball team 6-3.

Junior left-hander Brandon Finnegan fell to 8-3 on the season with a 2.16 ERA. The Fort Worth native allowed six runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

Baylor’s six runs were the most allowed by the Frogs in a single game not going into extra innings since March 30. TCU has now lost two of its last three after winning 13 straight.

With the loss, the Frogs fall to 15-7 in conference play and 36-15 overall. They’re now two games behind first place Oklahoma State (40-13, 17-5 Big 12) and cannot win the Big 12 regular season title outright.

TCU would need to win its final two games against the Bears (24-27, 8-13 Big 12) and have the Cowboys lose their final two to secure a share of the Big 12.
