TCU faces Baylor, another Top 5 team, in Waco this weekend. Recent history shows the Frogs are undaunted when it comes to the big games.

Since 2005, the Horned Frogs have posted a 5-2 record in their last seven games against Top 5 opponents.

Four of the five wins for the Horned Frogs during that span came on the road, including the 2011 Rose Bowl victory against Wisconsin.

TCU’s dominance over Top 5 teams all started on September 3, 2005, when they opened the season with a 17-10 victory over No. 5 Oklahoma, a game that ESPN called TCU’s biggest upset in 45 years.

Coach Patterson’s TCU defense was able to hold superstar Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson to just 63 yards on the ground and quarterback Paul Thompson to just 109 yards through the air.

The defense also forced an interception and three fumbles in the game.

Oklahoma, again at home and this time ranked No. 2, was able to exact its revenge against TCU on Sept. 27, 2008, with a 35-10 victory.

The tough Oklahoma defense proved to be too much to handle for then-sophomore quarterback Andy Dalton. Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, who would go on to win the Heisman Trophy that season, threw for four touchdowns.

TCU, who was ranked No. 24, quickly fell out of the top 25.

On Nov. 6, 2010, No. 4 TCU traveled to Salt Lake City and quickly disposed of No. 5 Utah with a 47-7 win.

Dalton threw for three touchdowns in the game and wide receiver Jeremy Kerley added a touchdown toss of his own.

The Horned Frogs’ defense held Utah’s offense to under 200 total yards of offense and held Utah’s best offensive threat, Matt Asiata, to just 27 yards on the ground.

This victory helped propel TCU to the 2011 Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, where they defeated No. 5 Wisconsin, 21-19.

TCU’s offensive scheme stopped Wisconsin’s J.J. Watt from having much of an impact on the game.

Wisconsin’s running back Montee Ball had 132 yards rushing, but the Badgers’ passing game wasn’t able to get anything going against Patterson’s defense.

The defining moment of the game came when TCU linebacker Tank Carder swatted down Wisconsin quarterback Scott Tolzein’s pass attempt on a two-point conversion in the closing minutes to give the Horned Frogs their first ever Rose Bowl victory.

The following season, TCU went to No. 5 Boise State, who was 8-0 at the time, and defeated them 36-35 after Boise State missed a field goal on the last play of the game.

The Horned Frogs’ quarterback Casey Pachall had a career day, throwing for 473 yards and five touchdowns—three that were over 65 yards.

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore also had a solid performance, throwing for 320 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough as TCU won the game on a successful two-point conversion try with one minute left.

The next year, TCU’s first in the Big 12, No. 2 Kansas State arrived in Fort Worth and beat the Horned Frogs, 23-10.

Patterson, who started his career as an assistant at Kansas State, couldn’t pull off this upset against the team that would go on to play in the Fiesta Bowl.

Kansas State’s defense kept TCU scoreless until late in the fourth quarter.

TCU’s most recent game against a top 5 team, this past Saturday, came against No. 3 Oklahoma, whom they defeated 37-33.

The Horned Frogs’ clutch defense was the star of this game as they picked off Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight twice, including Paul Dawson’s game-clinching pick six in the fourth quarter.

Now, the team prepares for its eighth matchup against a Top 5 team in 10 seasons as they head to Waco Saturday.

Baylor enters the game with a 5-0 record on the season after easily dispatching Texas last weekend. Senior quarterback Bryce Petty is looking to bounce back from his poor performance last week and mediocre performance last season against TCU.

TCU, who has scored a touchdown on the opening drive of each game this season, will look to build off of the Oklahoma game, and pull another upset.

The game will be played at 2:30 p.m.
