TCU’s chapter of the Iota Eta of Delta Sigma Theta sorority will announce the winner of its “Real Men Wear Pink Photo Challenge” at its breast cancer awareness event on Thursday, according to a flier posted on the sorority’s Instagram page.

The contest requires male participants to capture themselves clad in pink and to email the photos to the sorority. Along with their photo submissions, the men also write about their thoughts on breast cancer in America.

“Having the guys in the photo contest is a good way to grab people’s attention,” said Jhala Criss, senior social work major and member of Iota Eta of Delta Sigma Theta.

The sorority launched the challenge last month hoping to increase breast cancer awareness during the month of October, according to the sorority’s Instagram page. The photos and descriptions were posted on the sorority’s Instagram account as well.

“All of the guys get to say why breast cancer awareness is important to them, and I think that is a really cool piece because you get personal testimonies and really heartfelt stories,” Criss said. “It is nice to learn those deeper things about people that you wouldn’t know otherwise.”

All participants that entered the contest will receive a free gift for participating. The male with the most likes on the TCU Delta Instagram page will get a $50 reward.

The sorority will announce the winner of the contest on Oct. 23 at 7:13 p.m. in Scharbauer Hall room 1008. The event will also feature a panel of breast cancer survivors to raise awareness and discuss their personal experiences.

There will also be small gifts and refreshments for those who attend the event.
