Mens dive team shares its last season together

Seniors Ricky Bradley, Curtis Muller and Joseph Stegeman have been diving together since their freshman year. Evan Folan joined the team as a walk-on last year.

The four see themselves as brothers, creating strong team chemistry.

Stegeman said his teammates haven’t just contributed to his time on the dive team, but they’ve been the best part of his entire college experience.

“Having been together for so long, these guys are my best friends. We are together for hours each day both in the pool and out of the pool. So to be with [these guys], it makes college special,” Stegeman said.

With such a small team, Muller said there are advantages to coaching.

“When there are more males the coach is usually a little bit distracted but with the fact that there are only four of us, we get very good coaching, we’re instructed well,” Muller said.

Although they act like a family, Stegeman said they aren’t afraid to get competitive.

“Last year we had the chance to have all four of us in the finals on platform, and all four of us ended up getting All-Conference in that event,” Stegeman said.

Coach Wayne Chester added that losing them all in the same year will be a challenge because the next class will not have any senior leadership.

Their next competition is this Saturday, Nov. 1 against Kansas.
