The TCU RAD for men class this Saturday will be postponed until next semester due to scheduling conflicts for students.

“It is difficult during the fall semester because of football games to get enough students to sign up,” said TCU Crime Prevention Officer, Pamela Christian.

The RAD for men class stands for Resisting Aggression against Defense for men opposed to the women’s class, which stands for Rape Aggression Defense for women.

“The women’s class is more for prevention against abductive type behavior where as when men are assaulted it’s usually force against force,” said Christian. “We try to teach men to avoid force with force so they are not severely injured and teach them how to escape and hopefully help them survive an assault.”

TCU Police Officer George Steen said, “For men the first thing we teach them is to walk away from a problem. Do not put yourself in a situation where you may become a victim.”

Christian said TCU is one of the few places to offer the class for free.

“There are multiple reasons why students should come to the class,” Christian said. “But first and foremost it is free. It is a free self-defense class. What more could you ask for? Most everybody that I know besides TCU charges.”

After completing the course, students receive a RAD certification.

Christian said Once students receive their RAD certification, they are able to go and practice at any other RAD for men class in the United States and Canada.

Christian said the class will now be held sometime during the spring semester and students are able to sign up for the class through an email sent through campus life with a link attached to the sign up.
