TCU heads to Kansas to take on the lowly Jayhawks

TCU travels to Lawrence, Kansas Saturday to take on a Jayhawk team that is 3-6 (1-5 Big 12).

The Horned Frogs are ranked at No. 4 in the College Football Playoff Rankings and will be looking to hold on to their spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff.

The committee that is determining this year’s rankings looks at the nature of each win, so it is important that the Frogs win impressively over a subpar Kansas squad.

TCU overtook No. 5 Alabama in the rankings this week after a dominant win over Kansas State, while Alabama squeaked by the LSU Tigers in overtime.

Right behind Alabama in the rankings are TCU’s two other threats to a playoff spot. No. 6 Arizona State could end the season as the Pac-12 champions, while No. 7 Baylor still boasts a head-to-head win over the Frogs.

Arizona State plays Oregon State this weekend, and Baylor has an off week.

TCU may be facing another obstacle Saturday afternoon: snow.

The forecast in Lawrence projects a high of 34 with an 80 percent chance of snow.

For a team of primarily Texas-born players, it could be the first time that many Horned Frogs have played in snowy conditions.

TCU’s high-flying Air Raid offense may convert to a run-heavy ground attack to counter the frigid weather, which could shorten the game and lower the final scoreline.

Look for running back Aaron Green to receive a lot of work and for quarterback Trevone Boykin to rely more heavily on his own rushing ability.

A win will likely keep the Frogs in the top 4, unless Alabama is able to leapfrog the Horned Frogs with a win over No. 1 Mississippi State.

Keep an eye on that Alabama-Miss. State matchup, as it will have a great impact on TCU’s playoff chances.

The Frogs and the Jayhawks will face off Saturday at 2 p.m.

If KU pulls off the upset, one could expect more of this. If not, TCU will return home with a 9-1 record and will begin preparing for the Thanksgiving game against Texas in Austin.
